1) Who are you?
Im the humble servant of Herok, his will is my wish. Apart from that im a 18 year old Norwegian that cant get over Atriarch whatever I do, also my english sucks at times.
2) How long have you followed the development of Atriarch?
All my life, maybe not as a game but as an dream it has allways been around. I remembed beeing a really small kid programing on the spectrum and the comandore 64 trying to make a multiplayer rpg - oh well the best we did was a multiplayer battleship game. (E4 you miss, you know the thing)
3) What game(s) did you play before finding out about Atriarch?
Didnt play any MPOGS before i met Atriarch, but now I play some EQ. Ive played a few rpgs on the spectrum, especialy tic attack i think it was called, you where in a castle and needed to find different parts to build a key so you could open a door to the next level. You could be 4 different characters and they all had special moves, very cool game. Actually I think the games they made before had much more atmosphere and style to them than most of todays games, today the games are rushed out to make the most dollars. Thats why I love Atriarch, you can see that the developers and especialy Serafina are listening to the community - she wants to make a game that will be good not just make money on it. Thats the kind of developer I have massive respect for, the one that tries to build her/his dream into a game.
Also ive played massive amounts of quake 3 arena, I was in a clan and we where going to be the best in the world. We went to a lot of tournaments outside of Norway - it was pretty cool. Ofcourse the story ended by us not getting the best in the world and having waisted a good chunk of our lifes, but hey you live you learn.
I could write a lot more here but I will spare your poor souls :P
Gaming Aspects
1) What gaming design aspect are you glad is included in the game?
I discuss this a lot with my norwegian friend Magnar, the conclusion we came to (what we love the most) is the freedom you have in the game. If you want to kill another player - go ahead! But better darn take the consequences. Want to build a settlement with others ? Do it! Get your friends together and build a massive city and all that comes with it. Just think of the possibilites, that is really the part that takes the breath away from me. More interaction between the players and not just the old hack and slash the monster that spawns every 2 minute stuff. Lets take the city example again, when the city is finsished you need to get trade to it, you need to protect it from thieves and armies and you need to maintain all the buildings etc. Also what is there to stop you from having sports in the city? Perhaps there is factions in the city fighting each other, what better way to prove who is the best then by dueling it out in a form of sport?
Freedom, if Serafina can create an enviroment with the greatest freedom possible Atriarch will be a great game.
2) What would you like included in/removed from the game?
Charma birds, remove them please! whats realistic about some birds attacking you because you killed another person? Let others revenge the one that died. If players are forced to make order in thing they will do and that will also take the game to another level. Again its all about freedom.
3) How much/what innovation do you think Atriarch brings to the industry?
A lot, Serafina is doing a great job listening to the fans and trying to make a game that will be better than anything out there now. Even the game idea is new, an alien world with alien species.
Atriarch Community
1) What factors build/destroy the Atriarch community?
For me its important that the community is _alive_ , with that i mean that there should be someone out there thinking what to do next instead of just reading news etc without thinking about it. (the common gamer usually do this.) I know Serafina is helping the community stay active, she allways has something if the community needs it badly.
The destroying factors is time and too much anticipation. If this game takes too long to get out there the fans will leave one by one.
2) How can the schism between longtime and new followers of the game be breached?
Welcome the newbie, tell him how things are going and whats up. Treat the newbie like a friend you havent seen for 2 years and want to tell everything that has happened since then.
3) Should visibility in the community curry special favour in the (pre-)game?
Hehe i want my name in the credit screen thats my greatest wish :P Generaly speaking yes I think that the fans who use a part of their lives to help a game develop should get favours. But that doesnt only go to computer games, feks the janitor at your school that works hard every day to make the school look good also deserves a reward. Actually we all deserve a reward from time to time if we work hard for something. One more thing, the question is a bit off course - if you mean just visible anyone can be that, but what makes someone special is if they really _CARE_ for Atriarch. I really cared about Atriarch before and im trying ot get that feeling back again...
2) What thread was your favourite to start or see thrive (site/url)?
Freedom vs Responsibility for gamers, if we can kill someone and not get punished by the game itself will humans take over that role? Stuff like that.
3) What do you think should be discussed more amongst the communities?
Well that depends on what stage the game is in, if its not complete we should discuss ideas for it. If its compleate we should try and see what can be done better. Allways improving it.
Other aspects you think would interest folks?
Lastly I will like to warn you that Willburn is back and he is not stopping for anything. So women, children and men flee while you still can. I am going to try to stay active from now on and until long after the game is out. Only time will show how much I really care for Atriarch, I do not know that answer myself.
