Atriarch Watcher...We're watching. Are you?

Atriarch Community Profiles: D'Voxien

Introduction

1) Who are you?
Lt.D'Voxien of the Shayun Benu'ul

2) How long have you followed the development of Atriarch?
Since Febuary of 2000 I think... I lurked around without being active for about a month, then I quit EQ and became a thread junkie.

3) What game(s) did you play before finding out about Atriarch?
EQ, and even earlier (way earlier) I played games on BBS' like Operation Overkill II. I played PnP games like Cyber Punk 2020 and other assorted ones.

Gaming Aspects

1) What gaming design aspect are you glad is included in the game?
Persistance, oh! and having a dynamic world... I couldnt choose one.

2) What would you like included in/removed from the game?
I think that I would like to see a few more playable species, but I really have no complaints, the game looks awsome!

3) How much/what innovation do you think Atriarch brings to the industry?
I think Atriarch is a big stepping stone for the world of the MMORPG's, it shows that fantasy has many faces like Sci-fi, and that there are always room for more ideas. I think that persistance is going to be great, it will show the MMORPG community that your character is an important aspect of the game adding realism that hasnt been seen before. I also really like the idea that stats are going to be hidden, I cant tell you how happy that makes me! I think people are going to then realize that there are more important things in gaming than stats (like the story!).

Atriarch Community

1) What factors build/destroy the Atriarch community?
The great interaction with the developers is something that binds the pre-game community together. This creates a very strong following of players. Having a strong base is imho, is the key to starting a great adventure. The diversity in minor Factions this early in the game should prove that. Things that could destroy the game would be a large amount of 'grief players' trying to ruin everyones fun, and spoiler sites. However, im confident that WF has taken care of information that fuels spoiler sites by hiding stats, and by creating a dynamic world. I have my own ideas on how to deal with the grief player! (insert evil laugh here)

2) How can the schism between longtime and new followers of the game be breached?
The schism can be breached by giving the noob playable skills that are beneficial to the community from day 1 or at least month anyway =). Newbies can play a vital role by joining with up with a minor faction giving them a larger membership base. A faction comprised of vets who wishes to create a empire, needs more than just natives to create a functioning city/state/empire. If a minor faction truly wishes to become a major faction, they will HAVE to rely on new and old players alike to achieve it. Also, new players have a nack for filling in the gaps that the vets need to function, as well as a new players ambition for a new game can create some interesting competition, and competition leads to innovation.

3) Should visibility in the community curry special favour in the (pre-)game?
Well, I think visibility is the best way of getting your voice heard amongst all the others. If a pre-game player is found to have a great voice with great ideas, then yes, they should carry some favour, but only early in the game if at any point at all... However, I dont think it should be great favour, I dont think that there are many players in the community who really wish for anything more at this point in the game other than to help take part in Beta testing. Infact, I think most players of the pre-game community would love just a pat on the back for a great idea they submitted to the devs. Well, thats all I need anyway =)

Discussions

1) Where can people find your threads (site/url)?
On CoA, ATS, and of course the Shayun website @ www.hatchling.net/sb

2) What thread was your favourite to start or see thrive (site/url)?
I have lots of favorite topics, but I really like to see all the activity and interest on the Shayun thread on ATS Factions board, but im just biased. I also am very happy with the 'Question of the Week' thats hosted on CoA, it has some great threads, and gives us a bit of insight into what the devs are thinking! =)

3) What do you think should be discussed more amongst the communities?
At this stage I really like to see the various factions deciding to play nice together. I get really excited when a new faction pops up and people are excited to help them out. So I guess I would like to hear more discussion from the devs as to how the finer points of the faction is going to work in game... Things like how NPC's are going to be lead, how villages become towns and towns become cities, what sort of resources are needed to fuel a faction... Really just little bits of info like that can do wonders for faction organization and cooperations.

Other aspects you think would interest folks?
I would read the FAQ on www.atriarch.com then jump on IRC, start posting on ATS and CoA, then after that your probably hooked and dont need any help from me!
