Atriarch Watcher...We're watching. Are you?

Atriarch Community Profiles: Camorandi Suun

Introduction

1) Who are you?
I'm Camorandi Suun, people call me Camorandi Suun. Industrialist, scientist, armsdealer, and all around nice guy. Evidently I'm known as that guy in the black shades and trenchcoat, always the "Outsider."

I've been running around the internet as PenanceAngel or PenanceX since 1992. If you have to call me something OOC, call me that.

2) How long have you followed the development of Atriarch?
Renkon and I were both recovering EQ addicts at the time, and we were talking about what we wanted most in a MMORPG, then Renkon came in and told me about this new game.... He pulled me in kicking and screaming in Febuary of 2000, and I've been hooked ever since.

3) What game(s) did you play before finding out about Atriarch?
MMORPG-wise, I started with UO back when it had just come out. Me and a few friends started one of the first Anti-PK guilds in UO, and we had a lot of fun wearing death cloaks and brutalizing thieves and PKers trying to abuse the helpless. Later I got into EQ and played for a while until I relized at about the mid 30's there really wasn't anything different I could do, just different levels of the same things, and I had to camp those. So I laid low for a while until AT came along. I'm also pretty big into NWN. I like anything from old adventure games (Gabriel Knight, Simon the Sorcerer, etc.) to crpgs (Wasteland, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Might and Magic, anything really.) to Action and FPS (UT, Quake, X-Wing, Wing Commander).

Gaming Aspects

1) What gaming design aspect are you glad is included in the game?
Detailed item and building construction. The fact that items degrade so that item construction is actually useful. Empire building and strategic battle so that LOTS of said items will be useful

2) What would you like included in/removed from the game?
Well, like everyone else, remove global speech and return true permadeath. I'd also like to see eavesdropping and a detailed stealth system, with NO floating names.

3) How much/what innovation do you think Atriarch brings to the industry?
I was talking to a fan of ShadowBane about what you can do in the game, as it's in beta. I rattled off about 10 things I'm excited about in Atriarch, and NONE of them were in ShadowBane. Does that answer your question?

Atriarch Community

1) What factors build/destroy the Atriarch community?
Flamers, prideful people, people insensitive to the wide range of cultures, ages, and backgrounds AT attracts. Basically we need to simply keep an open mind, but that seems more difficult than I think :)

I think lack of change tends to destroy community. Perhaps more community events and faction events should be planned, to keep things going. And nothing's wrong with playing something else actively for a while, especially if it's something like Tribes or UT, where the attraction is different and multiple AT fans can get on board together.

2) How can the schism between longtime and new followers of the game be breached?
There isn't much of a schism as I see it. Soralis uses his vast knowledge of archived threads. I just answer questions on IRC. Be open, be honest, be friendly.

3) Should visibility in the community curry special favour in the (pre-)game?
I don't really care. I think the community brings needed attention to WF, and maybe some ideas, but in the end, we aren't necessary. So why should we get something in return? Man, I can be depressing at times...

Discussions

1) Where can people find your threads (site/url)?
I post mostly at Faction sites, like SB, and the Dharuban, and on the question of the week (Month? hehe) forum on COA. I'm afraid ATS and ATVAULT got incredibly repetitious after a while. I spend most of my Atriarch time on IRC, chatting, helping with other factions and, just recently, starting a faction with a compatriot of mine.

3) What do you think should be discussed more amongst the communities?
Whatever comes to mind, although real life should be important enough to post on, you'd think.

Other aspects you think would interest folks?
I'm going to be putting up more fiction at the Watering Hole, if I can find the time between work, college, gaming, my own Graphic Novel, and RL friends. But scrounging the necessary hard facts for doing so is the hard part.
