The Best Part of Atriarch
{Serafina} I'll tell you what the best parts about AT are in my opinion: trade skills, a new kind of combat, and player-built cities
{Eol|Game} Did you change combat from that pic top right left bottom middle and hit button to swing at that location?
{Serafina} by new kind of combat.. I mean that it works a little differently than in other games... more interactive.

The Freedom to do anything?
{Bagricula} Can we still build a land bridge if we want to spend the time, Serafina?
{Serafina} We don't let you do just anything for the sake of it. However, you will affect the world.
{T|Civ2} can we block out the sun with multiple balloons?

{Serafina} hehe... you can block the sun by putting on a roof

On Advancement and Combat
{Serafina} The advancement system is different than in other games as well
{Serafina} Well, the advancement system is still linear. For example... you move up a ladder.
{Serafina} The difference is in two areas: 1. the way in which you achieve the nex linear level; 2. what your skill "level" actually affects
{trewit} please tell me we won't be locked in the kiddee pond to kill plankton until we are big enough fish to navigate the big bad ocean.

{Serafina} It depends on the skill.
{Serafina} for example, lets take combat
{Serafina} a combat skill will affect how well you wield the weapon... no big deal... works like that in most games
{Serafina} however
{Serafina} Combat..
{Serafina} you have the different areas of attack
{Serafina} then there is the weapon you use... whether melee, sword, blunt.. whatever
{Jahmbo} you say area, you mean like the keypad analogy?
{Serafina} you can use any weapon you are capable of carrying
{Serafina} what skill affects are two things: 1. efficiency; 2. amount of damage
{Serafina} for example... anyone can pick up a sword... whether you have skill in it or not.. .in real life or AT
{Serafina} you can learn different moves for different weapons
{Eol|Game} good
{Serafina} skill level may affect someone willing to teach you a new move
{Bagricula} Serafina, you said you can use any weapon you can pick up..does this mean it would have to be designated as a weapon..or could you say use a chair-leg as a club?

{Serafina} well... there may be some cases where a cavolon for example cannot pick up a weapon that a Tyrusin has
{Serafina} the reason is practical... they are all different sizes
{Serafina} the Tyrusin is twice the size as the cavolon and we would have to do 5x as many animations, checks, ect
{Serafina} so.. for one weapon... there are nine zones... lunging and close attack... that would make it 9x2x5 animations for every weapon out there
{Eol|Game} and that's not counting the combat moves?
{Serafina} so, 90 combat moves for every weapon
{Serafina} 90 combat animations I mean
{Serafina} for each and every weapon... not including the combat idles when you are holding it, running & walking with it, etc
{Jahmbo} thats a lot

{Serafina} If you have 100 weapons.. thats 900 animations just for combat...
{Serafina} since we have more... it would actually be more than that
{Serafina} we don't ahve enough time to get *every* possible combination in
{Serafina} we could have everyone be able to pick up everything, but then weapons would be passing through bodies and such
{Serafina} it wouldn't look good
{Serafina} some weapons start off with a negative skill :-)
{Serafina} hehe... that means if you use it, you will probably hurt yourself
{Serafina} there are lots of weapons like that in real life

Titular Rewards
{Serafina} so, as you move up in skill.. you will get a new title
{trewit} hmm, I am not so sure I like any method other than actual effectiveness for denoting ability in a given skill
{Serafina} trewit.. I don't understand what you are saying
{trewit} I think it hurts immersion for titular or numerical or any kingd of skill denotation
{trewit} kind
{Serafina} it won't be numeric
{Serafina} qualitative
{Serafina} trewit... well, AT's combat system is not all character based. There are some tactics involved in it that are strictly player-based skills. Two "same titled" swordsmen can have very different results
{Serafina} What I'm not going to do is allow people give themselves their own titles.

Orbaeos

{Serafina} Orbaeos was the name of our test worlds. It sounded and looked cool.
